How to generate new ideas from research

How to generate new ideas from research

Wednesday 27th April 2016 12.00 (Lunch Provided)
BizzInn, Birmingham Research Park

Join us at this event and discover how to produce a host of new commercial ideas from your research.

Creative thinking specialist Nigel Temple will show you a series of ways to come up with new, original ideas on demand.

It is easy to become immersed in the details of a research project and to find it difficult to see the wood for the trees. Nigel will help you to think outside of the box.  He will demonstrate proven strategies for creating a stream of new ideas. Cutting these ideas down to a ‘manageable few’ is a relatively easy step.

Creative thinking is enjoyable and productive. It boosts morale, confidence and enthusiasm within teams at all levels.

Nigel will help you to see through the customers’ eyes; increase the number and quality of ideas that are produced; see opportunities where none existed before; have the confidence to share your ideas; and make creative thinking part of your culture.

Nigel Temple BA (Hons) MCIM

Nigel has taught creative thinking skills for two decades. He was a Faculty Member of The Chartered Institute of Marketing for 12 years and he is a published author. He applies his knowledge of psychology, management, marketing and inter-personal communication during the training process. Nigel packs a great deal into his presentations, which are both enjoyable and practical.

Crowdfunding - the new 'kid on the block' in the world of financing new business

Raising start-up capital has always been the biggest challenge in getting an idea off the ground, but new technologies and platforms have increased the options available.

Most people will have heard of crowdfunding platforms like KickStarter where individuals can invest by buying into the product at an early stage, but a business can also raise finance through Equity Crowdfunding.

Equity Crowdfunding and other forms of finance aren't mutually exclusive and a successful crowdfunding campaign helps prove to VCs, angel investors and banks that there is a demand for a product in a marketplace, removing some risk for them. This is an area of finance which hasn't been used much by the university sector but where there is likely to be growth.

This seminar will be led by Emanuela Vartolomei (Emma) from All Street, Emma will talk about how this platform works and what you need to know to plan a successful campaign.

Emanuela Vartolomei

Emma is the founder and CEO of All Street. An economist by trade, Emma is dedicated to enabling everyone to get involved in the new financial system that crowdfunding is creating. She brings significant experience in financial services across corporate banking and asset management, an MBA degree from Oxford University and two Masters of Science. She believes in the power of shared knowledge to transform the alternative finance space.
